Using a Non-Traditional Design to Improve VLDB Performance or RM-Friendly 1NF Denormalization
نویسنده
چکیده
T his paper explains a novel design approach to improve the performance of the system by compressing the database. The denormalization method joins a group of virtual records from one table into a single physical record. By making the tables and indexes smaller, this method reduces physical I/O operations during loading and querying data. A denormalized table resembles the physical layout of data in an Oracle cluster. The denormalization method can be combined with other Oracle features for fast data loading, such as direct path and parallel insert operations.

ROX: Relational Over XML
An increasing percentage of the data needed by business applications is being generated in XML format. Storing the XML in its native format will facilitate new applications that exchange business objects in XML format and query portions of XML documents using XQuery. This paper explores the feasibility of accessing natively-stored XML data through traditional SQL interfaces, called Relational O...
متن کاملHierarchical Denormalizing: A Possibility to Optimize the Data Warehouse Design
Two of the most common processes in database design community include data normalization and denormalization which play pivotal roles in the underlying performance. Today data warehouse queries comprise a group of aggregations and joining operations. As a result, normalization process does not seem to be an adequate option since several relations must combine to provide answers for queries that...
متن کاملUnifying Temporal Data Models via a Conceptual Model
To add time support to the relational model, both rst normal form (1NF) and non-1NF approaches have been proposed. Each has associated diiculties. Remaining within 1NF when time support is added may introduce data redundancy. The non-1NF models may be incapable of directly using existing relational storage structures or query evaluation technologies. This paper describes a new, conceptual tempo...
متن کاملDenormalization Effects on Performance of RDBMS
In this paper, we present a practical view of denormalization, and provide fundamental guidelines for incorporating denormalization. We have suggested, using denormalization as an intermediate step between logical and physical modeling to be used as an analytic procedure for the design of the applications requirements criteria. Relational algebra and query trees are used to examine the effect o...
متن کاملDesign and Implementation of Queries for Model-Driven Spreadsheets
This paper presents a domain-specific querying language for model-driven spreadsheets. We briefly show the design of the language and present in detail its implementation, from the denormalization of data and translation of our user-friendly query language to a more efficient query, to the execution of the query using Google. To validate our work, we executed an empirical study, comparing Query...
